Nicht nur ein Stil!
Not just one style!
Als College-Student habe ich den Eindruck, dass ich in meinem Zeitplan nie Zeit habe, mir selbst etwas zu verdienen. Die Gründung und der Betrieb dieses Ladens ist für mich eine Möglichkeit, meine Arbeit über meine College-Community hinaus zu teilen und mir zu zeigen, dass der Verkauf von Arbeit möglich ist, auch wenn ich jung bin und noch in der Schule bin. Meine eigenen Anregungen zu generieren, die Kunst zu schaffen, die ich schaffen möchte, und professionelle Qualitätsprodukte zu entwickeln, liegt in meiner Reichweite und meinen Fähigkeiten. Letztendlich gibt es nie den richtigen Zeitpunkt, um etwas Ehrgeiziges zu beginnen – wir haben immer andere Arbeiten und Ablenkungen in unserem Leben – warum also nicht jetzt damit beginnen?
Im Kunstunterricht scheint der Schwerpunkt immer darauf zu liegen, an einem konsistenten Portfolio zu arbeiten, das einen bestimmten Stil veranschaulicht. Ich persönlich glaube, dass die Stimme wichtiger ist als der Stil; Durch umfangreiche Erkundungen und eine Reihe von Stilen und Herangehensweisen kann man ihre Stimme finden. Meine Kleidung ist eine Erkundung vieler verschiedener Ästhetiken und Techniken. Es ist eine Darstellung von Verspieltheit, handgemachten Kreationen und der vielschichtigen, chaotischen Natur jeder unserer Identitäten.
As a college student, it seems like there's never time in my schedule to make work for myself. Creating and running this store is a way for me to share my work beyond my college community and show myself that despite being young and in school, selling work is possible. Generating my own prompts, making the art I want to create, and developing professional quality products is within my reach and capabilities. At the end of the day, there is never a right time to start something ambitious — we always have other work and distractions in our lives — so why not start now.
In art classes, there always seems to be an emphasis on working towards a consistent portfolio that exemplifies one style. I personally believe that voice is more important than style; it is through immense exploration, and a range of styles and approaches, that one can find their voice. My apparel is an exploration of many different aesthetics and techniques. It is a representation of playfulness, hand-made creations, and the multifaceted, messy nature of each of our identities.
