The way to my passion: ceramics
Avedouda®'s name origin: underside has the story of the dodo. A bird of Mauritius, which evolved from a pigeon. Without predators it grew and lost the ability to fly. In 1505 the first Portuguese arrived on the island and it was baptised “Doudou” (“Crazy”) as it did not offered resistance to capture. The island was also populated by other people, and animals (such as monkeys, pigs and others) which destroyed their eggs. The Dodo became extinct in 1680. Avedouda® chose this symbol as a message of change our role in preserving the environment on Earth. "Bird Dodo" is its meaning.
Avedouda®'s way...
Being born and growing in Lisbon, it's a privilege. A city full of a beautiful light and the Tagus river as cenary. I grew making my own creations, from dolls to my dresses. Many years later, I ended up with an Etsy shop.
My work it's been in papier mâché sculptures (mainly projects by order), journals, baby linen, pottery and tiles. In 2011 I received the second national award of contemporary handcrafts, with a papier mâché project. More recently, when I've started to work in ceramics I realized, it was the greatest thing I ever did...
Nature is my great inspiration. Avedouda® is placed at Coimbra, at the center of Portugal.
