About

The introduction of all things in the way of Northeastern Woodland Crafts, jewerly & graphics!

I started my shop several years ago, at the urgings of several of my fellow-artists who also list their hand-made items on Etsy. I tell people I was born with a pencil in my hand, that's how long I have been an artist. My heritage is Mi'Kmaq (Micmac), a Maritime People indigenous to New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, Canada, French, English and Scottish. I hold to the first, the Mi'Kmaq, and am most proud of this lineage! As children, we were told of our Native ancestry, and ever since I was old enough to read, (age 6), I was fascinated by the Native culture and history, and it has been a life-passion with me ever since! Sadly, most of the non-Native public is still "in-the-dark" when it comes to the diversity of the Tribes living in North, (and South) American, especially right here in the Northeast. New England is rich in the history and culture of the Native American; the State where I live, Massachusetts, is named after a small Tribe, meaning "People of the Blue Hill", that was pretty much extinct in Colonial Times, but there are still many others alive and well and bursting with history, stories and art so colorful they will take your breath away! Due to various stereotypes and the long influence of Hollywood, most people have thought Natives, or Indians, all ride Pinto ponies, hunt buffalo, and live in tipis. This mind-set unfairly leaves out MANY Tribes residing on the other side of the Mississippi River who do not, but still having a history all their own and just as rich as their Western cousins! In my own small way, I try to educate the Public as to this history through my art. It is an ongoing journey, and I am still learning what my art is all about while trying to teach others! So come along on the journey with me---you'll be surprised at what you might learn! Welalin, (Thank you), Monica 'Little Flower'
