The Life And Times Of Scottish Knitwear
My shop has now been part of Etsy since 2014 but owing to ill health that year, it closed and re-opened in 2015
It was, I think February or March of 2014 when I decided to start a shop - - these can be very cold months in Scotland , so the time of year made the decision for me as to what yarns and designs I would stock in the shop namely - warm , thick and comforting knitwear for all age groups worked in the cable designs which I love and in a variety of yarns to suit all pockets
For children, I usually use a blend of wool with acrylic a#Aran weight yarn for ease of care The wool is usually 20-25% of the blend
Occasionally, I choose 100% acrylic which I can find in a variety of bright colours
My items for adults are knitted in either the Wool with Acrylic Blend or Shetland Wool, Scottish Aran Wool or Alpaca with Wool blend. Shetland Wool, Scottish Aran Wool, Alpaca and Pure wool are natural fibres which repel dirt and odours. They are breathable, keeping the owner warm without sweating - these fibres last for years and at the very end of their long lifespan, are bio degradable so will not harm the planet
I have been so lucky in that my work was seen by the costume department of the TV show "Outlander" so was asked to work with them for the show.
In 2022, I have knitted for The UK/USA production of the musical "Islanders"
Also, my hands knit bespoke sweaters for a well known London Store
So now you know a little about my knitting past. I hope you will visit my shop and stay awhile but, most importantly enjoy your visit
