This is a wonderful post, and does cause one to think.

Buying from small business, in my opinion, greatly increases the time in which money gets back to the people who need it, day to day americans.

When you buy more from best buy - best buy increases its profits, and may sometime off in the future open a new store which benefits some employees. However, for immediate return, at the highest possible rate, supporting small businesses with far less overhead cost will quickly stimulate the economy. When you buy something from me, I instantly have the money in my pocket. If you go buy my current employers product, that has no fast impact on me.

I think it's important to think about this - you can have a much better, more influential impact on the economy and your local community by spending your money on the small local shops.

Sorry, I just realized I had the wrong word in there.

Increases should be decreases! I changed how I wanted to phrase the sentence midway through :(

I just bought a few items on Etsy to support the economy. I feel good to know we support hand-made products and each other rather than mass produced products.

It makes all the sense in the world to me. So where is my bail out?

Seriously, it is nice for our buyers to know that they are doing the right thing in a lot of different ways.

good to know others are thinking about this as well.

its true, SimpleSolutions...our employers' profits may increase, but will we get raises? not necessarily!

so how do we spread the word on this???

buying from small businesses has always made sense to me. and it's also important to remember that many people barely hanging on economically work for places like best buy and walmart so even though we may view the big corporation as not so good, the people who work there are our neighbors and friends.....it's not an easy question or an easy solution.

someone suggested the other day that people take a month off from eating out. great for their budgets. but if everyone did it....an awful lot of people would be out of work and unable to feed their children.

i do buy small and i do buy locally and i am a very frugal person with no debt other than what's left on my tiny house mortgage so i'm probably not the best guage here--but i do hope we don't paint the people who work in retail with the same brush as the people who run the companies and the people into the ground....
