Is XL considered plus size????

I'm looking through the plus size clothing, and it seems like 3/4 of the items AREN'T EVEN PLUS SIZED!! It's so annoying! And yes, I am reporting the size small t-shirts that are tagged "plus size", but I'm confused...do people think that XL is plus size?? Am I wrong in considering xs-xl are "regular" sizes, and plus size is anything OVER xl--2x, 3x, etc?
It's such a hassle to find anything cute and plus sized when so many of the listings are incorrectly tagged, and i'm getting reallllly frustrated!

I agree with gugentag, there is a difference in XL and 1X. XL is a standard measurement and 1X+ are plus sizes.

Designers and manufactures of clothing have changed their size charts since the increased use of foreign trading markets. In the 70's a 14 was a 14 in young girls up to age 13. But now, a 14 is a 10, and young girls must move to a 15/16 to accommodate the size difference of what use to be a 14.
Same thing for XL, if the label has an "X" in it then its considered a Larger size...plus, size included. But I have seen here on etsy, sizing mis-labeled. When I list a vintage item, I list the measurements of the garment. Allowing the customer to project their own sizes in relation to my item. Someone help me with this....but it seems that in the 70's we went to the labeling size in the back neck lapel for all clothing made? Before then, items were only labeled with their makers mark in the lapel?

I agree--it seems that's the only thing to do to make sure the clothing will fit, so I'm afraid I'll only look at items that have the measurements in the descriptions.

TECHNICALLY- Anything larger than a 14 is plus size.
That makes my soul sad.
But not as sad as when I search plus size and get maternity clothes....

For brands that I buy, 14 is NOT plus size!
Standard sizing is:
0-2 X small
4-6 small
8-10 medium
12-14 large
16-18 X large
Plus size begins at 18-20 1X, so the confusion is for size 18. Women at that size can find good fits in either X large or 1X.But in terms of tagging, if it's not sized 1X, it doesn't belong in a "plus size" search.

XL is a standard size.
The sizing depends on the company. Large is 14-16 and XL is 16-18 for most companies, but they are all over the place. Lane Bryant's 1X would be "XXL" for most places.
Disney clothings 4x is about the same size as an XXL as well.

I think it really depends on what the seller is using for sizing. As has been mentioned XL is typically 16-18 which is considered a plus size, but there are some companies that assign XL to 14-16 (which is still technically considered to be a plus size.) I would suggest contacting the seller if you have a question regarding size, esp. if the measurements aren't listed.
