In September 2015, we launched Direct Checkout with integrated PayPal. After the launch, sellers in the United States were asked to choose between integrating PayPal into their Direct Checkout or keeping their standalone PayPal and Direct Checkout separate. Throughout 2016, we’ll be asking Direct Checkout sellers outside of the US to confirm their payment settings in order to provide a more consistent experience to our buyers.
- On February 29, 2016, sellers located in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom will no longer be able to switch between integrated PayPal and standalone PayPal.
- On March 22, 2016, payment settings will be confirmed for sellers in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.
- On April 19, 2016, payment settings will be confirmed for sellers in Austria, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
- On May 31, 2016 payment settings will be confirmed for sellers in Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Once confirmed, switching between integrated PayPal and standalone PayPal will no longer be available. You’ll be able to switch to integrated PayPal at any time, but after your country’s confirmation deadline, you won’t be able to return to standalone PayPal.
If you are happy with your current payment settings, rest assured that there is nothing that you need to do. If you’d like to confirm or edit your payment settings, simply visit your payment setting page.
We will continue to update this article and the Etsy Forums as sellers in additional countries are asked to confirm their payment settings.
What is integrated PayPal?
If you choose to upgrade your account to Direct Checkout with integrated PayPal, your buyers can pay with PayPal through Direct Checkout. Here’s a look at some of the benefits:
- PayPal transactions processed through Direct Checkout are covered by Etsy Seller Protection. PayPal payments will be treated just like credit card payments for the seller. As long as you follow the required guidelines, Etsy's Seller Protection protects your funds and your account in the event of a dispute.
- One payment processing fee across all orders. You do not have to pay a PayPal fee for PayPal orders that go through Direct Checkout.
- Streamlined seller accounting. All of your payments go straight to your Shop Payment Account, regardless of which method the buyer uses.
- Sellers who accept only Direct Checkout can now receive orders from buyers who wish to pay using PayPal.
- New sellers can more easily sign up to accept a variety of payment methods through Direct Checkout.
- More consistency and payment methods for Etsy buyers. Whether they want to use an Etsy gift card, a debit/credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Wallet, buyers will be able to do so with our streamlined checkout system.
