Original Post

Hello,

March and although the days are getting longer in the Northern hemisphere and the weather shows signs of improvement (some of the time) being indoors making miniatures and purchasing them to add to our collections and building new houses is still better than braving the chill March winds "stirring the golden daffodils".

We are a Team specifically for makers and collectors of accurate to scale dollhouse miniatures for adult collectors.

Not all dollhouses and miniatures are made to scale for adult collectors. Some dollhouses and their contents are intended for children to play with and are more strongly made for play purposes.

There are many types of miniatures but the ones this group is interested in are in the internationally accepted dollhouse scales of 1/12th (one inch = one foot) - 1/16th (three-quarters of an inch = one foot) - 1/24th also sometimes called half-scale (half an inch = one foot) - 1/48th sometimes called quarter-scale (quarter of an inch = one foot) and the incredibly tiny 1/144th scale also known as micro minis (one twelfth of an inch = one foot).

Good Morning Team MIDS.

A new thread today for the new month.

This month in the UK we have one of the biggest dollhouse fairs internationally, Miniatura at the National Exhibition Centre Birmingham, Carol (STARSGEMINI3) is working hard to fill her stand there on the 21st and 22nd and we wish her luck with her sales.

This month we also have two members celebrating one year here at Etsy.

I'm bringing this forward from our February thread.

Congratulation on your first Etsyversary Berry.

This other one is me but I don't go in for celebrations :)

I saw some discussion on using power tools, especially Dremels, took place last night.

Must warn you of what happened to me a long time ago - I learned a valuable lesson and was lucky.

I was using a Dremel and had my long hair loose, the end caught and the whole Dremel whirled right up to my head even though I was holding on for dear life. Fortunately I was working next to my partner and he acted rapidly to pull the plug and then began the task of extracting the Dremel from my hair without having to cut a large chunk of my hair off or hurt me.

Never since then have I operated anything with moving parts without my hair tied right back and I also try to remember to wear safety goggles to prevent anything flying up and blinding me. I've had a scroll saw blade snap and fly at me.

Please take a few sensible precautions by keeping hair well out of the way and wear protective goggles or mask.

Good morning all, good advice BK, NEVER forget power tools can be dangerous.

Good morning all. Thanks for the great advice, Blue Kitty. Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

I love my dremel. It is starting to wear out, and I know I need a new one... but I am very attached to it. My Dad gave it to me for my birthday about 20 years ago.

After he died, I got his dremel lathe attachment and his dremel saw. Haven't used the lathe attachment yet... but I will one one of these days.

Good morning everyone! Hope all is as well as can be!

EEEK, BK! Fortunately I got to learn that lesson with something that was only foot powered... I accidentally plied my hair into a yarn I was working on when I first started spinning :(

Good Morning and happy spring to everyone!

Carol...that must have been scary as h*ll. I must admit that I'm one of those people who don't always use the good sense to tie my hair back or use goggles...I'll do better.

I'm waiting on pins and needles to see your chairs, Ray!

And I'm working on frames this morning. I decided that I'm going to go for IGMA Artisanship, and it's a good thing they make you wait a year of membership before you can submit your work, because I'm going to need all of that to develop the skills.
